Preparing for Pebble

Posted: 9th June 2010

After playing in the BMW PGA Championship, defending my Madrid Masters title and Celtic Manor, I can say that I made all three cuts and that was about it! I played pretty well and was happy with my game but I managed to throw in a bad round in each event which didn’t help my finishing positions.

I’m now in Washington DC where I’m staying with old college friend John Scott. We played Congressional yesterday which was fun and the rest of the time I’ll be practising, playing and going to the gym in preparation for the US Open next week at Pebble Beach.

I’m not over familiar with the course at Pebble but have seen it on television on a few occasions and have heard only good reports. Matt, my caddy, has been there a few times before so his experience during the week will be invaluable. It’s my first US Open and I’m really looking forward to the experience and hopefully a good result.

Plenty has been said in the media about my wrist injury, which I have to say isn’t as bad as reported. I injured it on the final day of Wentworth when I hit a shot on some rough ground and as a result the cartilage got inflamed. I’ve been putting ice on it after play and that’s been doing the trick and also having a bit of physio on it from Cornel. It should take about six weeks to heal but it’s not hampering my game in any way and with the continued ice treatment the recovery time should be even shorter.
